“Chancellery” Table Lamp 5307-6
Viennese Coffee House Family
An especially heavy design by Oswald Haerdtl this elaborate table lamp was designed for the office of the Austrian Chancellor in the Hofburg Palace.
The metal structure is made from delicate brass parts with a precious gold finish. As usual with designs of Haerdtl a special type of crystal was commissioned for this fixture. Here mostly heavily cut crystals were used to create an opulent master piece as an example for Austrian crafting expertise.
The top of the fixture was crowned by the Austrian heraldic animal, an eagle with hammer and sickle as a symbol of prosperity and the broken chains as a symbol of freedom.
