Our vast archives house thousands of individual pieces, from workshop drawings from the 18th century to tiny scribbles from prominent designers still unpublished.
In one folder containing hand drawings from Josef Hoffmann we found this archetypical chandelier design. Nowadays the adornment of any student’s flat Hoffmann antedated the simple ball chandelier by a few decades and created a stunning and exquisite variation of this type.
The frame is made of brass with a nickel finish, decorated with small floral accents in gold. The crystal is from hand cut quality and mounted in a progression from large crystals on the equator to the tiniest near the poles.
